  • Can I add custom content to RiffTrax: The Game?

The PC Version of RiffTrax: The Game allows you to add your own custom clips, Pick-A-Riff options, and riff sfx.

    Custom Clips
Clips must have the .mp4 extension - for best results, use the h264 codec.

    1. Right click the game in your steam library, select Manage > Browse Local Files and place your mp4 clips in the RiffTraxTheGame_Data/StreamingAssets/VideoClips folder of the game's installation.
    2. Create a .srt file for each custom clip, with the same filename as the clip, and place it in the RiffTraxTheGame_Data/StreamingAssets/Subtitles folder of the game's installation folder.
      • Look at any of the included srt files as an example for the formatting.
      • We recommend using software like AegiSub to create your srt files.
      • For the section where you want the riffs to playback, enter [Insert Riff Here] in the srt file.
      • You can preface a subtitle line with a name followed by a colon to denote the speaker's name in the script feature found on rifftrax.games.
        • For example - Man: What do you think you are doing?
Note: Remote play games will not function with custom clips unless all players have added the clips to the game - use at your own risk.

    Custom Pick-A-Riff Options
    1. Create a .txt file for each Pick-A-Riff option you would like to add. The contents of the file should be the text of the custom option.
      • Note: Custom options longer than 150 characters will be trimmed.
    2. Right click the game in your steam library, select Manage > Browse Local Files and place your custom txt files in the RiffTraxTheGame_Data/StreamingAssets/PickARiff folder of the game's installation.

    Custom Submission SFX
Right click the game in your steam library, select Manage > Browse Local Files and place your custom .wav files in the RiffTraxTheGame_Data/StreamingAssets/CustomSfx folder of the game's installation.

The name of the .wav file will be how the sfx option is displayed on the web client at https://rifftrax.games.

For the best results, make sure to trim most of the white space from the beginning and end of the clip.

To add more than one audio file for a single sfx option, simply add a number to the end of the file. For example:
    • Gun Shot 1.wav
    • Gun Shot 2.wav
    • Gun Shot 3.wav
When a player selects an sfx option with multiple audio files, one of the audio files will be played at random. This can add variety to an option that may be used multiple times in a row.

Note: Any audio file over 5 seconds in length will be ignored.
